SEA LIFE Grapevine is bringing back Homeschool Week October 19–23, with $12 tickets for kids and adults and no group minimum. You can go with just your family or bring your co-op.
SEA LIFE used to hold its homeschool week at the same time as LEGOLAND, and we always did both on the same day. It made the drive to Grapevine Mills feel worth it. This year they're in separate months, so if you were hoping to pair them again, that's not happening this time. And if anybody making decisions over at Merlin Entertainments happens to be reading this, can y'all please put them back together next year? Some of us had a whole system going.
What to Know Before You Go
Tickets are $12 per person, and kids under 2 are free. SEA LIFE says tickets are limited and must be reserved online in advance, so I'd go ahead and book once you know which day you want to visit. The discount is available Monday through Friday, October 19–23.
You'll also need proof of homeschooling at admissions, according to their website. Texas doesn't require us to register with the state, so most of us don't have an official document to show. I'd bring a homeschool ID or something showing that your kids are homeschooled, and check with SEA LIFE if you're unsure what they'll accept.
Parking is free since SEA LIFE is inside Grapevine Mills, and there are plenty of places to grab lunch at the mall.
How Long Should You Plan to Stay?
According to SEA LIFE, most families spend about 60 to 90 minutes exploring the aquarium, and I'd agree with that estimate. It's not a huge aquarium, and while there's plenty to see, you can make your way through everything pretty quickly.
Which brings me right back to why I loved being able to visit LEGOLAND on the same day. It was the perfect way to turn two shorter attractions into a full day of fun. Okay y'all, I promise that's my last mention of LEGOLAND. Lol.
If you're making a longer drive, I'd recommend planning your visit around one of the free workshops or finding something else to do while you're at Grapevine Mills.
Free Homeschool Guides
SEA LIFE also has free printable educational guides for three different grade ranges: Incredible Sea Creatures (grades 1–5), Sea Defenders (grades 3–5) and Habitat Explorers (grades 6–8).
Each guide includes activities to do before your visit, worksheets to complete while you're there and follow-up lessons for when you get home.
I like that the worksheets give kids specific things to look for while they're exploring, but I also know not every child wants to spend their field trip filling out worksheets. You can always use the guides before or after your visit instead.
All three guides are available on the SEA LIFE Homeschool Week page.
